More progress

Another great day!  Tar paper is on the roof and one side of the roof is now shingled.  The wall above the front door was closed in and more of the front porch was built.  The stones I picked out last night were delivered and some were installed under the porch today!  Looks like I made a good decision, even in the dark.  The porch floor was also installed which closed in the basement bathroom underneath it.  The roof was built over the fireplace and the gas meter was set in place.  They also started framing the back patio and hauled in some rock.  I'm meeting with the plumber tomorrow afternoon to go over the plans and he is going to start next week!

What a day!

I was really surprised to see all of the changes today.  More progress was made today than I've seen before in just one day.  I did go to the brick and stone showroom this afternoon (http://www.illinibrick.com) and looked at some stone samples for the exterior.  I narrowed it down to a few and then got a list of addresses with the options that I had to go see later that night.  Thanks to Tony for driving me around while I creepily looked over people's houses.  Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't pick out stone in the dark.  Lets just hope it looks good in the light of day.  The decision has been made and I have to let them know in the morning so it can be delivered tomorrow.  Today, they finished installing the sheeting on the roof, worked some more on the front porch, finished putting down all of the tar paper, started shingling, installed all of the exterior doors and all of the windows, moved a dirt pile in the back and leveled the yard, and poured the concrete footings for the patio roof supports.  WHEW!  The house is almost all enclosed now.  Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Another impressive day

I was very surprised to see how much had changed from Friday night to Monday night.  I think they must have worked over the weekend.  There is tar paper on most of the roof even though it is still missing a few sheets of plywood.  I bet I have shingles by the end of the week.  They also added the front fascia and some trim work and started constructing the front porch.  A wall was built under the staircase and the basement stairs are now in.  There was also a header added to the dining room doorway.  All of the exterior doors and windows were delivered as well so I'm sure they will be going in soon!

Sheeting on the roof!

I always love seeing the progress after being away for a week and on Friday after work, I was not disappointed.  All of the trusses were up and about 95% of the sheeting was on the roof.  It is pretty much all enclosed now and is starting to feel like a house and feels much bigger than it did before.  The overhang was added above the garage door in the back, the master closet is in place but does not have a floor yet, and I have a cool little roof on the bump-out for the master bathroom.  I'll be working every day next week so should be posting more frequent updates.... 55 days to go?

A lot changes when you stay away for a week

After a week away, I drove to the house last Friday with some company.  My mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, Austin, Michelle, Liz, and Jay all wanted to see the progress.  There was quite a bit more done than I had expected.  All of the internal walls were up on the second floor and most of the trusses were in place.  I now have a pretty good feeling of how the second floor will feel... and yes, the master bathroom is still going to be huge.

I have been accomplishing a lot over the last few days, mostly shopping and picking things out.  I got some good deals on a few things during the Thanksgiving/Black Friday season so mom and dad's garage is really starting to fill up fast.  I think they will be as excited as I am when I get to move in.  I got a new refrigerator, washer, dryer, 4 TV's, dining room table and chairs, and bed which are all in the garage now.  I've also got all of the bedding and some of the curtains already.  I also picked out the oven, microwave, and dishwasher, but they will be delivered directly to the house later on.  I also finalized all of the plumbing fixtures.  I decided not to go with the super-cool/expensive shower fixtures in the master bath... I guess a shower head, hand-held shower, rain head, and three body sprays will have to do :)  I also created a budget for myself (I know this is probably shocking to many of you) as you can see how quickly things can get out of hand... now if I can only make myself stick to it.

Today is the halfway point, day 60 of 120!  I won't get to see the house again until Friday since I am on vacation the rest of this week so I'm sure there will be many more changes over the next week.
